Just a few more dates for you to view, and consider. Your comments, ideas, and discussion about any of these items are quite welcome and one of the main purposes of this collegium:

49 BCE --- Julius Caesar's general Gaius Scribonius Curio is defeated in the Battle of the Bagradas (49 BC) by the Numidians under Publius Attius Varus and King Juba of Numidia. Curio commits suicide to avoid capture;

30 BCE --- After the successful invasion of Egypt, Octavian executes Marcus Antonius Antyllus, eldest son of Mark Antony, and Caesarion, the last king of the Ptolemaic dynasty of Egypt and only child of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra;

20 BCE --- Ludi Volcanalici are held within the temple precinct of Vulcan, and used by Augustus to mark the treaty with Parthia and the return of the legionary standards that had been lost at the Battle of Carrhae in 53 BC;

79 CE --- Mount Vesuvius begins stirring, on the feast day of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire;

79 CE --- Mount Vesuvius erupts. The cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae are buried in volcanic ash (note: this traditional date has been challenged, and many scholars believe that the event occurred on October 24;

79 CE --- Pliny the Elder, Roman commander and philosopher, died.

93 CE --- Gnaeus Julius Agricola, Roman general and politician, died;

357 CE --- Battle of Strasbourg: Julian, Caesar (deputy emperor) and supreme commander of the Roman army in Gaul, wins an important victory against the Alemanni at Strasbourg (Argentoratum).

383 CE --- Gratian, Roman emperor, died.

392 CE --- Arbogast has Eugenius elected Western Roman Emperor;
