I am pleased to announce that in less than a week is the upcoming Ludi Apollinares, one of the biggest Ludi that we host. Of course as the name suggests, it is a Ludi that is meant to honor Apollo, God of Healing, Archery, Music, Poetry and much more. The opening ceremony for this event will be hosted by our very capable and knowledgeable Sacerdos Apollinis, L. Vitellius Triarius.
The events for this Ludi will be as follows:
Poetry Contest- The subject of this Ludi's poetry contest will be based around Apollo himself, It can correspond to topics such as poetry itself, music, healing, prophecy, and the sun. Basically, any topic that is within Apollo's influence is acceptable. The judges will be Curule Aedile M. Flavius Celsus, Praetor Urbanus G. Atius Victor, and myself (Plebeian Aedile L. Aurelius Curio). Prizes will be 50 denarii to first place, 25 to second place and 10 to third place. You do not have to belong to a faction to collect these prizes.
Art Contest- This will be a contest run by Gaia Cassia Longina. It also must pertain to the theme of the Poetry Contest (Apollo's influence) and will be judged by her and a co judge of her choosing. This will be announced as the time draws closer. Prizes will be set by Gaia Cassia Longina.
Gladiatoria Munera- I am proud to bring you the first Annual Gladiatoria Munera League. This Ludi will be the start of the league itself, and this season will go until December when my term is done as Plebeian Aedile, at which time the new incoming Aedile's will handle this. The registration form will be released in a following post. The winning gladiator will be awarded 30 denarii (prize is less than others due to this being part of an ongoing league).
Cooking Contest- This will be a cooking contest like most others. Cook or post the recipe of any Roman dish. If you cook a dish, please include a picture in your entry. Prizes will be 50 denarii to first place, 25 to second place and 10 to third place. You do not have to belong to a faction to collect these prizes.
I look forward to everyone's entry. We will also be implementing a new Factiones contest. With each Ludi, a winner from amongst the factiones will be chosen. This will be based on final placement of the contestants, and how many of each faction participated.
20 points - A faction will be awarded 20 points for a first place victory.
10 points - A faction will be awarded 10 points for a second place standing.
5 points- A faction will be awarded 5 points for a third place standing.
2 points - 2 points will be awarded for each member of a faction that participated.
The winning faction will be the one with the most points at the conclusion of the Ludi. A denarii prize will then be given to the faction who wins. The faction who wins the most at the conclusion of the 'season' (end of term for the Aediles) will be awarded a prize of greater value to be announced at a later date. This system is being implemented to promote faction participation.
