L. Livius prae. circ. omnibus in Circo sal.

Caution and deliberation is the rule for this race. After the last round of bloody battering, the charioteers hold their places against one another. Only Galen makes an attempt to out-maneuver his opponent, but Chrysanthos keeps the feisty Green behind him, alongside his teammate Achilles.

Hostilius is last to enter the turn, but once again cannot handle his hot-tempered geldings. They falter on the track, dealing a heavy blow to the already limping chariot.

Galen continues to weave behind Chrysanthos, desperately searching for an opening, but the stalwart Albatus has the Green locked behind him.

Cyrus' limping mares approach the inside turn warily, but the overconfident White angrily spurs them forward. The skittish Venetians falter, and collapse in a heap of broken bone and flesh! Cyrus' chariot barely emerges from the wreckage.

Artemon, on the other hand, makes good use of the wide, open lanes alongside him, picking up some much needed speed to keep ahead of the pack.

The Whites emerge from the turn a little battered, but still holding the lead for themselves.

Behind, Galen is growing ever more impatient with the unmovable Chrysanthos ahead of him. He whips his horses furiously, trying once more to overtake the intransigent Albatus, but this time, underestimates his opponent. Chrysanthos suddenly pulls on his reins, braking ahead of the restless Green! Galen is taken by surprise, and instinctively veers to his right to avoid the rear of Chrysanthos' chariot. Galen's team runs straight into Achilles' path and their horses stumble over one another with deadly consequences. Both chariots manage to disentangle, but are badly wounded. Green fans tear at their hair as they witness the internecine collision; White supporters are delighted by Chrysanthos' cunning!

Cyrus and Artemon continue to charge ahead of everyone else, and there's still enough space between the two Whites to leave them unable to interfere with one another's progress.

Undeterred by the chastening he received in the last turn, Galen continues to obsess with the Albati ahead of him. Wary now of the treacherous Chrysanthos, Galen quickly cuts ahead of Achilles, and wedges himself between his opponents' chariots. Achilles, however, is left grumbling in Galen's wake, once again slighted by the reckless, young Green.

Chrysanthos and Ambrosius watch the insufferably determined Prasinus edge up alongside them. For now, they hold steady, ominously flanking the wild Green.

Ventus rounds the outer lane, scraping his wheels against the walls. There's a dramatic shower of sparks as iron grinds noisily against stone, but otherwise, the Green's chariot suffers no serious damage.

Cyrus and Artemon have plenty of room and plenty of track left before the end of this race, and so the two leading Whites keep not too hurried a pace as they approach the metae.

Galen tries to break through the White gauntlet into which he's inserted himself, but there are simply too many Albati horses around him—his lone gelding is unable to maneuver around the crowd of thundering White hooves.

In the rear, Hostilius pushes hard for the linea alba, but is unexpectedly tripped by debris strewn across the track from the earlier collision between his teammates Achilles and Galen. His chariot leaps unexpectedly into the air, throwing the unlucky auriga under his own wheels. The reins, still strapped to the mangled corpse's wrists, violently wrench the lone gelding to the side. Wooden supports snap under the tremendous force, and the horse is impaled on the track. Green fans hiss vehemently: yet another blow has been dealt to their team by Galen's maneuvers.

Cyrus looks across the track, smiling broadly at his teammate Artemon. The two leading Albati drink in the fervent cheers of their fans as they saunter down the final leg of the race towards victory. While waving to the adoring crowds, however, Cyrus leaves too much play in the reins. His eager gelding, Viktor, turns too sharply around the metae, and pulls the chariot into the brass columns. Cyrus' inner wheel is caught, but Viktor continues to charge ahead, snapping the axle and flinging horse, rider, and chariot across the track.

Artemon is stunned by the spray of wood and flesh suddenly flung across his path. He veers sharply to the outside. Cyrus is crushed by Artemon's inside wheel, and one of his fillies badly twists an ankle. Nevertheless, the surviving White chariot manages to recover his place in the third lane.

Galen remains hedged in by his White opponents, but all three (as well as the indignant Achilles) are now headed for the turn ...

Galen finally breaks free of the White vice! He takes full command of the turn, using it to charge ahead of his opponents and begin his final approach on his only remaining rival: Artemon. Nevertheless, Chrysanthos and Ambrosius still remain within deadly distance of the daring Green. It's going to be a close race with only a few more legs left in this final lap!

Achilles is jostled in the turn at the expense of a mare, while Ventus follows quietly behind.

If Galen is to make it to the front of this race, the Whites are going to make him fight every inch of the way! The plucky Green is slowly catching up to Artemon from behind, but cannot gain enough speed to overcome the hardy Albatus. With the final turn not too far away, everything depends on this last stretch of track!

Meanwhile, the remaining Whites and Greens are cautiously jockeying for position in a close chain of chariots. Ventus is jostled in the turn, but no serious harm is done to his team.

The riders are approaching the final turn: their last opportunity to try and push their way to the front of the leg. Galen continues to swerve anxiously behind Artemon, searching for an opening but unable to find one. The unpredictable Green is clearly growing ever more frantic as the linea alba approaches with a White between him and it.

Galen throws all caution to the wind, and charges ahead like a windswept storm, straight towards Artemon. The leading White, however, refuses to surrender first place to the upstart Green, and stubbornly holds his position in the third lane. Galen attempts to veer around his opponent, but Artemon will not permit even this! He uses the rear of his chariot to keep Galen in place ... but miscalculates! Slowing down just a bit too much, the White's wheels are clipped by the thundering hooves of Galen's gelding. Artemon starts to swerve out of control; Mors is bloodied, but still running! The two chariots continue headlong for the finish line, with Artemon still commanding the lead!
