EDICTUM CENSORUM: Appointing new Senatores

Postby Publius Iunius Brutus » Mon Aug 21, 2017 2:17 am

T. Flavius Severus P. Iunius Brutus Cen. Sal.

It is with great pleasure that we happily invite the following citizens to join the Senate of the Respublica as Senatores.

Consul L. Aurelius Curio
Tribune Q. Furius Camillus
Quaestor Urbanus C. Cominius Laenas

All of these listed citizens have served the Respublica with distinction both privately and publicly since the first months of our founding. Both of the Censores welcome them with open arms as brothers, friends, peers, and colleagues.

We eagerly awaiting their public acceptance of this invitation which is required before September 19th.

I, L. Aurelius Curio, do publically accept this invitation to join the Senate. I also thank our esteemed Censores for giving me this opportunity to further serve our Republic and it's citizens.

Brutus Cen. Sal.

Consul and Senator, the Censores recognize your elevation with much happiness.

Also worth noting is that Curio is the first Plebeian (non-founding member) Senator in our history. :)

I can think of no other more deserving of such honor as our Consul.

SALVETE!

My jaw is on the floor. I never imagined or expected being invited to the senate. I have been a dirty scoundrel since I appeared here. I suppose I now need to wash and be "a little" more dignified. I will try my best and accept this great honor. But don't expect me to stop representing an alternative view and giving you "well-bred" Roman scallywags a hard time. I'm still Furius Camillus, even if I am honored with a seat in the senate.

Thank you Censors, you honor me with what I do not disserve. I will always do my best to honor your esteem in showing me such trust. The least I can do. Thank you. Thank you. Remarkable.

VALETE!

Sal.

Well earned all of you. Fine men who will make fine senators.

For the newer citizens who do know these good Romans let me provide a brief introduction.

Curio is an early citizen who was one half of the aediles last year. It goes without saying but he is also our consul and has led our Republic mostly alone since his co-consul Philo has been sick.

Camillus has been a strong defender of the citizenship. He has stood down the Comitia Curiata on several occasions as tribunus and is known as a no nonsense political figure. He also teaches in the classics and holds a PhD.

Laenas is not technically a founder of the republic as he did not sign the Declaration of Foundation. But I'm told he was around from before the start. He has been the superstar web programmer behind the RR. He is also one of the first equestrian citizens.
